Another 11 PNM Students Passed Europe Industrial Internship at Skoda Transportation in 2023

PNM – Madiun State Polytechnic (PNM) students have excelled again. A total of 11 PNM students passed the Batch 2 European Industrial Internship selection at Škoda Transportation in 2023 via Markija on Tuesday (01/08/2023). This number is the same as the Batch 1 selection which was held last May on the PNM campus. Similar to the previous selection, the eleven students also came from the Railway Study Program.

This industrial internship activity is still part of the collaboration between PNM and Markija Berdaya through a program entitled "Markija Internship Program to Europe for Indonesian Vocational Students". The Batch 2 selection was held again to meet the target of 300 selected candidates to fill mechanic, electromechanic and welder positions at Škoda Transportation—a Czech transportation company—which had not been fulfilled in the last Batch 1 selection.

"For the first, there is cooperation with Markija for recruitment. For the second, the reason is because Škoda is still lacking. Škoda is a company that operates in the transportation sector which requires mechanical, electromechanical and welding skills. He (Škoda) dispatches must be in accordance with qualifications and quantity. Quality and quantity must both be met." Explain Achmad Aminudin, S.Pd., M.T. as Head of the PNM Engineering Department.

Participants are selected for electromechanic positions when taking the Europe Industrial Internship test.

Furthermore, the Europe Industrial Internship selection is an opportunity that students can take advantage of to develop knowledge and experience to study in international companies. However, compared to participants from other campuses, not too many PNM students registered for the program.

The Head of Engineering, who is familiarly called Udin, said that language could be one of the obstacles to the lack of students interested in registering. However, if you look at the salary, it is quite large, the work contract and what you do are clear.

For this reason, Udin said that there is a plan to overcome language barriers through strengthening the curriculum and synergizing with the Language UPT. This is related to engineering majors which in fact often deal with foreign companies and use foreign language textbooks.

Even so, through this selection activity there are many lessons that can be learned. "Children can now interact a lot with students from other campuses so that later they can share experiences and share knowledge for them in the future." Udin explained.

Participants selecting the welder position listened to the explanation by Škoda Transportation shortly before the test began.

Apart from the language barrier, parental permission could also be one of the influences on the small number of PNM students who are interested in registering. "Maybe because apart from that, the climate has not yet been formed. This means that if someone from a senior level who is already there (ed: interning abroad) tells them about the conditions there, then what they get there, it might be interesting." Udin said.

Udin hopes that PNM students in particular will be interested in this work internship program and take part in and pass the selection. "Basically, with this program, because it is a very clear program and has extraordinary efforts, the hope is that children will be interested and then be able to take part in the selection and be able to pass until they reach the departure stage." he said.

Udin further said that this work internship program had also reached the ministry level. Even at the central level, this program is also highly supported. "So, however, when we can prepare children with advanced skills, we are very proud. This means that for example, children in their final semester can be said to have not yet graduated but have been able to get internship opportunities, like that." Close Udin.
